Nia Healing Dance with Stephanie (4-part series)
with Stephanie Parker

January 22 (Sunday)
at 10:30 am

Class length
75 minutes

Location
downtown oakland

Trauma is stored in the body, and needs to move through the body in order to heal; gentle, mindful dance is one of the most effective and nourishing ways to aid in this process. During our time together, we will honor our ancestors and Spirit, work up a little sweat, devote ample time to cool down & stretching, and learn somatic techniques you can take home to add to your own practice. As someone who has struggled with chronic pain and frequent re-injury, I discovered Nia dance and was hooked by the low-impact, low-pressure movement practice, rooted in ancient forms of energetic healing and release including Tai Chi, Yoga, and West African dance. Nia is well-suited for anyone looking to build a deeper connection with their body.

The series includes 4 weekly 75-minute Nia Healing Dance classes, held on the following Sundays at 10:30 AM:

January 22, 2023

January 29, 2023

February 5, 2023

February 12, 2023

Make a commitment to your body and spirit for the New Year! Participants must purchase the full 4-week series in order to attend.

Early bird price is $90 until December 22nd, 2022. Regular price is $108.

Class will be conducted indoors and barefoot, mostly standing with some stretching on a mat on the floor at the end. There will be some mats available to use, but feel free to bring your own as well. Wear clothing you feel comfortable moving in, and make sure to bring water to stay hydrated!

Bio

Stephanie Parker (she/her) is a Black intuitive somatic healer, licensed Nia movement instructor, and anti-oppression facilitator based in Oakland, California. She creates safe, affirming, sacred, decolonial spaces, guiding in a nonhierarchical way that allows collective wisdom to emerge from the group. Stephanie is initiated in Afro-Cuban spiritual practice and weaves sacred ritual into all of her offerings. She was called to the path of ancestral healing by her own body’s divine act of refusal in the form of severe upper body nerve pain, a condition that led her to step away from her movement organizing and career in tech. Stephanie’s search for relief led her to Bethamie Wyatt’s Nia Dance class, where she experienced the physical release of trapped emotions, loving intergenerational community, and the embodied sensation of feeling both freedom and safety at the same time. It was this spirit-led encounter that served as a catalyst for her decision to walk in her purpose as a healer.
